The best way to ensure a more prosperous future for our children is by investing in education. The opportunity to receive a quality education should begin in preschool and continue through college and beyond.
Supporting the Federal Stafford Loan program and the Pell Grant program which help students pay for college, is critical to ensuring that all students from District 34 have the opportunity to pursue a higher education. This is especially important as college tuition rates continue to rise. Equally important, is ensuring that American universities have access to grants which fund research programs.
One of the most enjoyable aspects of representing District 34 is visiting schools throughout the District. I have had the privilege to visit Head Start and Early Head Start programs, elementary schools, middle schools, high schools, and universities. I have also visited with students enrolled in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics programs (STEM) in the district. Supporting these programs is critical to ensuring that our country stays competitive in the 21st century.
While I have visited multiple school districts across South Texas, I have also hosted several school groups who have traveled to Washington D.C. My staff and I have enjoyed visiting with these groups and leading tours of the Capitol building and the Library of Congress. I encourage any school group that is planning a visit to Washington, D.C. to call my office to schedule an appointment.
