WASHINGTON, D.C. - Lawmakers are filing a bill to honor a murdered border patrol agent. U.S. Senators John Cornyn and Ted Cruz, Congressman Filemon Vela and others introduced a bill to honor U.S. Border Patrol Agent Javier Vega Jr.

In August 2014, Agent Vega was murdered when two illegal immigrants shot and killed him in front of his family while on a fishing trip. The lawmakers are hoping to rename the Sarita Checkpoint in his honor.

Vega was stationed at the checkpoint before his untimely death.
