WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Filemon Vela (D-TX) announced that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services awarded three Community Health Clinics in Texas’ 34th District with $2.3M in grant funding to support major health care construction and renovation projects. Community Action Corporation of South Texas was awarded $676,803, Su Clinica Familiar was awarded $841,770 and Nuestra Clinica Del Valle, Inc. was awarded $798,210.

These federal funds were awarded through the American Rescue Plan to support health centers throughout the country and strengthen health care services for vulnerable and underserved communities, including improving access to COVID-19 testing, treatment and vaccinations. Funds will also allow for expansion of existing facilities to meet the needs of the community.

“Our community health centers offer vital health care services and are an important resource for our South Texas families,” said Rep. Vela. “I am delighted to hear that HHS has awarded three of our own clinics with the funds needed to support their efforts in the fight against COVID-19.  I am certain that each one of these organizations will use these funds to continue offering high-quality care to the communities they serve.”
