WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Filemon Vela (D-TX) announced that his office is now accepting submissions for the 2021 Congressional Art Competition. This annual event is open to all high school students who reside in Texas’ 34th Congressional District.

This year, due to the ongoing pandemic, the reception will be hosted virtually.  Students who are interested in participating may submit a clear, well-lit photo of their work to TX34ArtCompetition@mail.house.gov by April 16, 2021.  Guidelines for students and teachers, and a student entry form can be found here.  The overall winner will have their artwork displayed in the underground tunnel leading to the U.S. Capitol and be honored at a reception in Washington, D.C.

“Every year I have the honor of hosting a district-wide art competition to determine an overall winner that will represent the 34th District of Texas in Washington, D.C.,” said Congressman Vela. “I have always been impressed by our talented RGV students and their great artwork and I look forward to seeing this year’s submissions. This national competition is a great opportunity for students of South Texas to showcase their tremendous talent.”
