Rep. Vela Announces Major Disaster Declaration Granted for the State of Texas

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Filemon Vela announced that Cameron, Hidalgo, and Willacy Counties were granted a Major Disaster Declaration by President Trump triggering the release of federal funds to assist people in recovering from flooding that occurred June 24-25, 2019.  Rep. Vela last week wrote to the President, along with Texas Senators Cornyn and Cruz and fellow Congressmen Gonzalez and Cuellar, urging the Administration to make the disaster declaration as soon as possible.

“I am pleased to see that the President heeded our requests for a federal declaration that will allow funding for those who were impacted by the severe weather. Texans are resilient, and I have no doubt that affected communities will come together and rebuild stronger than before. I will continue pushing for resources to support those harmed by natural disasters.”

FEMA’s Individual Assistance Program are available to those dealing with flooding from severe storms last month in the Rio Grande Valley for restoration and renovations.
