PRESS RELEASE: Judge Olvera Appears Before Senate Judiciary Nomination Hearing for Federal Judgeship Position

 

WASHINGTON – On Wednesday, State District Judge Jose Rolando Olvera appeared before the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee for his nomination hearing to be a U.S. District Judge for the Southern District of Texas.

 

“For more than 12 years, Judge Olvera has served Cameron County and South Texas well as a state district judge,” U.S. Rep. Vela said. “I’m glad Wednesday’s nomination hearing went so well and look forward to a confirmation vote soon. Without a doubt, Judge Olvera will make an excellent federal judge. I wish him the best of luck as this process continues.”

 

U.S. Senator John Cornyn, of Texas, a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, chaired the nomination hearing. This is Judge Olvera’s second to last step before becoming a U.S. District Judge. In the next few weeks, the U.S. Senate will vote on his confirmation.
